Short pose night at the Art Students League, haven’t had a male model in a while. This guy was great, very wiry older gent who looked like “ecorché man” from my art academy days. He very much felt like a living embodiment of an Egon Schiele painting the whole time. Started trying to sketch with watercolors, needs work…

Tried my hand at watercolors at the Art Students League short pose session, I’ve seen a bunch of people working with wet media, and it looked too intriguing to let go. I can’t say I’m super please with the results though, I’m going to need to work on that….

(I also ran out of paper and had to do two of my drawings in my sketchbook towards the end)

We had our first new model at the Montclair Art Museum’s FIrst Free Thursday of February Open Studio in over a year; a  black girl with long hair in a jump suit and Ugg-like boots with a fluffy fringe. It was a great turn-out at the studio today. Along with Steve and Eddie there were a few other regulars, a whole Cub Scout Pack, a guy who drew on his iPad, and lots of kids and adults dropping in throughout the night.

Haven’t been to drawing for a while, busy at work and unable to leave in time for Open Sketch at the Art Students League. Loved the model, bit of a goofy looking guy, reminded me a bit of Rowan Atkinson (Mr. Bean), kinda skinny, and well defined in places, but with a pretty big “skinny belly” in certain poses. He had great big bulgy eyes but moved them a bit too much for me to capture them for the portraits.
